Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun, Non-Halal
Fourteen Steam Roll is a recent addition to the dining scene in Bandar Puteri Puchong 5, offering a tantalizing selection of rice rolls and roast meats. Intrigued by the promise of Hong Kong-style Chee Cheong Fun, I decided to give it a try.
Opting for the prawn cheong fun, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dish. The prawns were notably fresh, and the rice roll itself boasted a delicate thinness and a pleasing translucency. With a generous serving of prawns packed into each roll, priced at RM9.90, it's certainly a value-for-money option and potentially one of the best in Puchong. I note that they offer some dim sum items too but I did not have any of it.
In addition to the cheong fun, I also ordered a serving of roast pork (RM18). While it was decent, it didn't quite reach the same heights as the prawn cheong fun. The skin was crispy but I felt there was too much fat in the meat. But I think it's because I didn't have any wine to pair it with. Maybe I might feel different with some red wine present.
Meanwhile, Jen decided to explore the intriguing option of tangerine char siew and roast pork rice (RM16.80). Opting for this unique flavour profile, she found the char siew to have an ideal balance of lean meat and fat, complemented by just the right amount of sweetness. However, despite the promising a taste of tangerine, she was disappointed to find that it was barely discernible.
Despite this minor setback, our overall dining experience at Fourteen Steam Roll was positive.
