Fried Rice, Pork-Free
The Toast Puchong has been buzzing with activity since their recent opening. Our first visit was for a quick coffee break, and we found their Kopi quite impressive — rich, aromatic, and served just right. We also tried their Chai Kueh, which was a delightful surprise. The steamed dumplings had a delicate, translucent skin with a flavourful filling that was both savoury and satisfying.
On our second visit, we decided to have a full meal to see how their more substantial offerings measured up. Jen ordered the Kampung Fried Rice, while I opted for their record-setting Mee Siam, which holds the distinction of having sold the most Mee Siam in Malaysia.
The Kampung Fried Rice was a standout. It was well-seasoned and nicely fried, with each grain of rice remaining unbroken and perfectly cooked. The dish had a wonderful balance of flavours and wok-hei that made it a comforting and hearty meal.

Look at the separation of the rice

The vermicelli was well-prepared, with the noodles not cut into short strands, maintaining a satisfying texture. The dish was flavourful though I think I would have liked it to be spicier. The sambal was sweet which didn't do anything to enhance the pleasure for me. The accompanying fried chicken, however, was a letdown. It was quite bland and lacked the depth of flavour I was expecting. In fact, it was the same bland fried chicken in both the mee siam as well as the fried rice. Maybe I should have tried the Mee Siam with the Otak Otak next time.

Despite the underwhelming fried chicken, the overall experience at The Toast Puchong was positive. The main dishes were well-executed, and the ambiance of the place was lively and inviting. It's clear why this new spot has been drawing a crowd. If they can improve on the fried chicken, they'll have an even stronger offering. For now, their Kampung Fried Rice is worth trying.
