Chinese Peanut Pancake or Ban Chien Kueh in local Hokkien dialect is a very popular street food in Penang. 99 Pancake Ban Chien Kueh stall located in the Cecil Street Food Court offers the traditional version of this pancake. The centre is a very popular place where the locals as well as tourists come to enjoy the various types of Penang street food.

Traditional Ban Chien Kueh with only sugar and crushed peanuts. Sweet corn is an optional add-on.

The locals are very familiar with this pancake stall as it has been here for more than 30 years.

It is also one of the few stalls that still uses charcoal embers to slow-cook the pancake.

Mr Lee (blue t-shirt), the elderly proprietor has taken a back seat now, allowing his son to handle the small round griddles and continue their family’s hawking business.

Just out of the griddles, these fresh and hot Ban Chien Kueh are left to cool to obtain the desired crispiness.

Very few people can resist these tempting and delightful Ban Chien Kueh, one piece is never enough.

Ban Chien Kueh with its crispy outer layer and moist, sweet fillings makes it a favourite snack at any time of the day or night.

Very reasonable prices.
Original with sugar and crushed peanuts, only RM1.10 per piece.
Add sweet corn : RM1.50.
Add egg : RM1.80.
Add sweet corn and egg : RM2.00.
