My first time eating at KafeBali Puchong was when they first opened in May 2022. It's owned by the same people who manage Bumbu Bali that is literally just across the street. They nailed the whole aesthetics in decor, transporting you back to Bali once you stepped foot into the restaurant. The food was also quite good although the menu was limited in choices. This time, my visit was close to their closing time. Themed as a cafe with a fusion concept, the cafe style food menu is flushed with food item names in Indonesian language, signaling an influence of western and Indonesian cuisines.
Even with limited time it did not take me a long time to make my selection as their menu is quite limited in the mains section. This time I tried their Soto Macaroni and I did like it. It's basically macaroni in soto ayam soup so the fusion concept here is quite simple and somewhat lazy. It's not the best soto ayam (the shredded chicken meat was kind of dry) and I can't help but to think that I could buy soto ayam from a stall somewhere else and just boiled some macaroni at home to combine the two together for much less. This dish cost RM26.
With the Siap Aglio Olio (RM30) I however did not detect any hint of fusion save for the fried shallots on top. It was still good although I could not detect any Indonesian flavors in it. The grilled chicken was flavorful and most of all, not dry and chewy. But the portion of the grilled chicken seemed smaller than I'm used to with this kind of dish.
I enjoyed the Calamansi Margarita (RM17). It's a slurpee with two sour plums and heavy on the calamansi flavor.
What I did not like though was the Sup Jamur (RM18). It was a mushroom porridge, not quite a soup. Not that I don't like porridge but I have ordered two mains that were already carb heavy. The taste though was pretty mild if you're expecting it to taste like the usual mushroom soup that you're used to. I've got the feeling that the menu has further slimmed down a bit compared to my last visit. They still have a good selection of pastries and cakes but I had no room for desserts anymore.
