Ma Maison, known for their Japanese-Western cuisine, Tonkatsu and pretty Japanese fruit tarts has re-opened its café concept at Mandarin Gallery. For those of you who remember, Café Ma Maison used to exist at Liang Court’s basement. The new space at Orchard Road replaces where gorgeous pastry shop Antoinette used to be.
A spinoff from the tonkatsu staple next door, this cafe has a quaint charm enjoyed by my daughter and I. Their cakes and pastries are the headlines but they’ve a respectable omu rice and mentaiko pasta to boot. The omu rice comes with a tonkatsu so it’s quite filling. Both options are 6.5/10 over the years.
If you had to go with one then it must be the omu rice. This is Jap comfort food done aptly (enough).
