Japanese, Omakase
A night at Tsumo Omakase in Kips Bay can feel similar to most of the budget-friendly omakase spots in the city. They charge a pretty low USD48 (dinner it’s USD58) for the whole experience. After waiting in a room that’s dressed in a bamboo and Japanese wood joinery facade, you’ll be brought into a room with two 12-seat sushi bars, which is pretty different from the tiny, 8-12 seat shoebox counters you usually see at under-USD100 omakase spots in the city. Over a short-feeling hour, they serve 12 pieces of nigiri garnished with things like fried shallots and a pickled yuzu condiment, and a toro hand roll.

The sushi is just fine, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive spot with a decent sized group, Tsumo Omakase is a good option.

The chef was from Fuzhou, China. Just saying. There’s no way this will match up with the usual Michelin starred USD250 per pop omakases in Asia- but if you want value for money, Tsumo Omakase is your place!
Total 6.5/10 overall. Don’t get me wrong the seafood was passably fresh.
