French, Fine Dining
Gunther’s is somewhat of an institution for French fine dining in Singapore, having been around since 2007. Their namesake chef, Gunther Hubreschen has an impressive resume, having trained personally under chef Alain Passard followed by a stint in Les Amis, before starting his own restaurant.
I have long heard of Gunther’s legendary cold truffle angel hair pasta, and they appear to be the pioneers of that dish in Singapore, though I’m sure this fact would be highly debated by many. Nonetheless, I’ve always been eager to try it out, and finally the opportunity had arrived.
Gunther’s Restaurant is located on Purvis street, right beside another landmark fine dining restaurant in Singapore, Garibaldi. Gunther’s is my all time fav French in Singapore. You can’t go wrong with this place.
My first memories of Gunther a decade ago was a tray of fresh ingredients carted around for the dinners to select their ‘specials’. Yes, you’d have the occasional finicky live shrimp or lobster.
Today, we had a meet and greet with a live Alaskan king crab. We decided on their four course Xmas set lunch $148++ with $78 wine pairing.

There’s nothing to fault with each dish. Starting with the Amuse Bouche, the egg soldier was executed perfectly. And this was just a starter.

We had their legendary angel hair truffle pasta to follow. Faultless. I topped mine with uni (sea urchin), but it’s already 8/10 on its own.

The Alaskan king crab leg was also perfection. The forestiere gave us earthy palates at every bite. 8.5/10

The pork jowl on hibiscus sauce was artisanal – slow cooked and juicy, succulent to finish. The cranberry pops were icing on the cake. 8/10

Their desserts are the stuff of legend too – the family went for the rustic Christmas log cake, but i got cheeky and swapped mine for another of their classics – the apple tart, or crisp.

Everything was at least 8/10 – and it’s consistent over the years. Gunther’s is a solid 8/10 and the piece d resistance of French fine dining in sg. Vive le France. Total damage SGD970 for 4 pax
