After having a meeting at Amcorp Mall, we decided that we would have lunch there as well. Selera Berkat looked popular. That gave us some comfort. From where I was sitting, I could see the ferocity of the stove fire. That should mean their stir fried dishes should be good. I ordered a mee goreng mamak (RM6) and added in a piece of fried chicken for the extra protein.
Even though the outlet was filled with people, my food was out within 15 minutes of placing the order. The plate of noodles may not look visually appealing but the aroma hit me as it arrived. There was a nice aroma of smokiness, indicative of the “wok hei”. The taste of the mee goreng was not a disappointment either. The smoky flavour coupled with a savoury taste of the noodles made it a satisfying experience. I thought it could have been a bit more spicy but that’s quibbling.
The fried chicken, however, was a let down. It was cold and lacked the taste to match the mee goreng. It might have been better to ask them to stir fry the chicken in the noodles. But that would risk having bone fragments in the noodles, as they cut up the chicken before stir frying it. That was exactly what happened to my colleague’s order. Needless to say, his experience wasn’t as pleasant as mine.
