Cake, Non-Halal
After hearing much buzz about the indulgent creations at Moody Cow, I finally made my way to their Gurney Plaza outlet to see what the fuss was all about. Among the array of flamboyant, almost audacious cakes on display, we settled on the Cempedak King – a cempedak cheesecake topped with a generous swirl of gula melaka glaze.

The lines of cakes

Alchol infused options

If that sounds rich, it absolutely is—and yet, this is considered entry-level in Moody Cow’s world of ultra-decadence of their cempedak series. They also offer a Musang King and Cempedak combo. That is how far they’re willing to push the envelope on richness and tropical intensity.

The Cempedak King was dense, creamy, and full-bodied, with the unmistakable aroma and bite of ripe cempedak woven deep into the cheesecake. The gula melaka glaze added a smoky, caramel-like sweetness that made each bite intense and satisfying. This isn’t the kind of cake you demolish on your own—it took four of us to finish the slice, and even then we had to pace ourselves. This is not something I would venture to finish on my own.

A pot of tea to wash down the cake or just to make us feel like we had something less decadent to complement the cake.

Moody Cow Gurney Plaza served us a rich, unapologetic, and memorable dessert that makes a statement.
