Pepper Soup
Jen and I visited Zai San Bei Restaurant & Bar at IOI Mall Puchong for dinner. After spending 3.5 hours in a cold cinema hall, we were in desperate need of hot soup to warm up. The restaurant offers a vibrant Chinese-style pub atmosphere that blends elements of an izakaya and a restaurant.
We ordered the Claypot Pepper Pork Tripe Chicken Soup and it was exactly what we needed. The broth was delicious, featuring a creamy texture and a nicely warm, peppery seasoning. While the chicken pieces were a bit small and bony, they were still flavorful. The pig stomach could have used a bit more “bite” or firmness for my personal preference, but overall the dish was well-executed.

We also had the Garlic Fried Rice, which was a good accompaniment to the rich soup. The restaurant overall provided a lively environment with quality food that arrived hot and fresh.

Claypot Pepper Pork Tripe Chicken Soup – RM45.00
Garlic Fried Rice – RM12.00
Total Bill with Service Charge and SST – RM66.10
Score: 7.5/10
M – Meal Value
The pricing is reasonable for a mall-based restaurant and bar. At RM45 for a flavorful claypot soup that serves two, it’s alright for the quality provided.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The restaurant features a stylish and lively atmosphere with comfortable seating and live music that does get loud. It’s a good spot for chilling over some good Chinese and Japanese food and drinks.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The “thawing” quality of their peppery broth is a standout. The blend of a Sichuan-style pub with high-quality claypot dishes gives it a unique edge in the Puchong dining scene.
Score: 7.5/10
