Dim Sum
I recently stopped by Dim Loong Dim Sum, located off Jalan Kuchai Lama, to sample their offerings. The experience provided a mix of hits and misses across their menu.

The standout item of the meal was the Shrimp and Chives Patty. It was both crispy and tasty.

The Loh Mai Kai also performed well, with the rice maintaining a pleasant texture.

On the other hand, some staple items didn't quite hit the mark for me. The meat in the Siew Mai was too finely minced, resulting in a paste-like consistency rather than a chunky bite.

They used sweet tasting shrimps in the Har Gao but the skin was too dry.

Bao was not too bad.

The Char Siew Cheung Fun was disappointing despite the thin skin. Somehow the flavour was missing.

Additionally, both the Yam Cake and the Stir-Fried Turnip Cake were served too dry.

Other items sampled included the Red Rice Cheung Fun, which was an interesting choice, and the Carrot Dumpling, which was pretty but not particularly memorable.

Shrimp and Chive Patties - RM9.80
Loh Mai Gai - RM8.80
Premium Shrimp Siew Mai - RM9.50
Char Siew Cheung Fun - RM8.50
Crispy Yam Cake - RM7.50
XO Sauce Stir-Fried Turnip Cake - RM9.00
Dim Loong Red Rice Cheung Fun - RM12.80
Carrot Dumplings - RM7.00
Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value
The pricing is standard for modern dim sum outlets in the Kuchai Lama area. However, given the inconsistent quality and dryness of several items, the value proposition feels average.
Score: 6.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The restaurant provides a typical, clean environment for a casual morning or afternoon meal. It is a clean modern space suitable for family gatherings.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The Shrimp and Chives Patty is the highlight here. While the menu has creative touches like the red rice rolls, the execution on the basics needs more consistency to truly stand out in a competitive dim sum neighborhood.
Score: 7.0/10
