Pasta
My last visit Magpie by Burgertory in 2024, I was left rather unimpressed by their burger. But for hot weather, I might not have entered here again. However, I am now glad I did. Interestingly, as I browsed the menu, the offerings immediately reminded me of E@T Puchong. They even carried the same names. Same boss?

We ordered 3 items. A truffle chips, a dry aged chicken and a plate of smoked duck carbonara to share between the 3 of us. The portions were so generous that the three of us actually struggled to finish.

The Truffle Chips was a really good starter. They had a thick, crunchy texture that felt like the ultimate beer food. After doggy bagging it, they still held their crunch when I had it for dinner.

While the Dry Aged Chicken was tasty, I did find the meat a bit dry. This is often a byproduct of the dry-aging process itself, which draws out moisture to concentrate the flavour, sometimes making the final texture leaner than standard chicken. Interestingly, the chicken was better at night (this was doggy bagged too) when the sauce had soaked in to through the skin.

The Spicy Smoked Duck Carbonara was the star of the mains. The pasta was al dente, and the sauce was expertly balanced—just enough to coat each strand without drowning the dish.

Despite being full, we couldn’t resist capping off the meal with the Rum Tiramisu. It was a bold finish, wonderfully “greedy” and heavily laden with rum.

Estimated based on standard Magpie menu rates because my friend treated Jen and I to this meal
Spicy Smoked Duck Carbonara: ~RM32.00
Truffle Chips: ~RM18.00
Dry Aged Chicken: ~RM53.00
Rum Tiramisu: ~RM22.00
Average Spend: Above RM60 per pax
Score: 8.33/10
M – Meal Value
The generosity of the portions is a major selling point here. Shared among three, the cost-to-volume ratio is excellent.
Score: 8.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Magpie offers a relaxed, clean, and contemporary neighborhood vibe that OUG is known for. I like the bright skylight where we were seated. The natural light was comforting.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the of the lovely Carbonara and the unapologetic Rum Tiramisu. It’s rare to find a place that manages to keep a creamy pasta light enough to let the smoked duck shine, only to follow it with a dessert that doesn’t hold back on the spirits.
Score: 8.5/10
