Western
Since I was not getting an iPhone Duo, I thought perhaps a pizza duo would do. That brought us to POUND at Jesselton Mall in Kota Kinabalu, where we ordered a Duo Pizza with one half Margherita and the other half Truffle Mushroom.
The pizza looked promising, with a nicely puffed and charred crust, but the dough was disappointingly bland. The Margherita half was particularly flat in flavour, while the Truffle Mushroom relied heavily on the truffle to give it some character.

The Mussel Pot (RM28) didn’t fare much better. The mussels were surprisingly small, almost the size of large clams.

Thankfully, the service rendered by Adam was considerably better than the food.

The staff were attentive and friendly, making our visit pleasant despite the meal. POUND itself is a bright, modern and welcoming restaurant, with a setting that I think would work particularly well for events and group gatherings.
Located on the first floor of Jesselton Mall, the restaurant also benefits from clean mall toilets. We walked over, so I can’t comment on the parking arrangements.
Our bill came to RM123.35 for two people, including a glass of 1602 Beer, service charge and SST.
POUND has the right setting and people looking after its customers. I just wish the food had been as good.
Duo Pizza (Margherita and Truffle Mushroom) – RM58.00
Mussel Pot – RM28.00
1602 Beer (325 ml) – RM20.00
Subtotal: RM106.00
Service Charge (10%): RM10.60
F&B SST (6%): RM5.16
Alcohol SST (8%): RM1.60
Rounding Adjustment: -RM0.01
Total: RM123.35
Average per pax (2 diners): RM61.68
MVX Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value
The RM58 Duo Pizza was let down by bland dough, while the RM28 Mussel Pot contained surprisingly small mussels. Neither dish justified much enthusiasm at these prices.
Score: 6.0/10
V – Vibe & Venue
A bright, modern and welcoming restaurant with attentive, friendly staff. The setting would work well for events and group dining. The mall toilets were clean, while parking wasn’t assessed as we walked over.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The Duo Pizza concept offered some variety, but the food didn’t leave a lasting impression. The service and welcoming environment were the strongest reasons to consider returning.
Score: 6.5/10
