Assam Prawns, Chinese, Non-Halal
Jia Shi Restaurant at Gurney Drive serves delicious home cooked style food. This restaurant had it roots in Bak Kut Teh, which can be seen in its table settings. They have grown and moved on with a few outlets of different name. Even their current restaurant is a new one. They had to let go their old location a few doors away due to (I believe) new land lords.
Let’s talk about the dish that we ordered. There were 3 star dishes that was outstanding in terms of taste. The Assam Prawns, Fried French Beans with dried shrimps and the Tauhu topped with Terung. Superb. Tasty not Salty. All of them had the correct flavours.

The other 3 items were well cooked but in a very “neutral” manner. To my overworked taste buds, it tasted a bit bland. Nothing wrong overall. Maybe it was cooked that way to avoid offending those who dislike tasty or what they call salty food. Nothing some accompanying Chili Padi, Soya Sauce, Sambal cannot help to rectify. This 3 dishes were the “Nyonya” Curry Sting Ray, Braised Pork Trotters and the Bitter gourd with egg gravy.

Overall it was a satisfying meal at Jia Shi Restaurant.
