Inflight Meal
The in-flight meal was Fried Rice with Chicken Satay, a warm tray of seasoned rice topped with pieces of turmeric-marinated chicken and drizzled with a sweet peanut-based gravy. Presentation was tidy for an airline meal — fragrant rice, tender chicken, and a rich sauce coating the top.

At first glance, it looked promising. The rice was fluffy and aromatic, and the chicken was decently cooked. But the satay sauce leaned towards the sweeter side — a flavour profile that some passengers might find pleasant, but one that didn’t quite resonate with me.
The sweet satay sauce dominated the dish, masking the more subtle savoury elements of the chicken and rice. While the sauce was creamy and smooth, it felt more suited to grilled satay skewers than a rice meal. The chicken itself was tender, with a faint turmeric aroma that came through nicely when eaten without too much sauce.

In fairness, the portion was decent, and it’s clear Batik Air aims for a mass-appeal profile. Those who enjoy a slightly sweet note in their meals would likely find it comforting — I just prefer a more savoury or spiced tone in my nasi dishes.
Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value (6.5): Well-portioned and nicely presented, but overly sweet for my taste.
V – Vibe & Venue (7.2): In-flight dining comfort was fine; warm meal served promptly.
X – X-Factor (6.8): The satay sauce is unique for an airline meal, though polarising in flavour.
