The last time I had this was about a decade a go at the very least - Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse is the #1 steakhouse to many on this tiny red dot - this unabashed restaurant boasts to have ‘best steak in town’.
In an elegant building on Mohamed Sultan Road, the restaurant is ‘sophisticated rustic’ – if that’s not too oxymoronic. It’s fine dining, but with a casualness that’s designed to reflect a combination of Tuscan farmhouse chic and French brasserie boudoir charm. Staff take their jobs seriously, and you can definitely count on them to feel right at home. Nothing changed much over the decades - perhaps their formula for success
A quick survey of the steakhouses in the recently announced World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants 2021 shows that I the typical steakhouse isn’t as typical anymore! What also caught my attention was that our locally established Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse managed to clinch 13th spot in the list! Not bad for a country that doesn’t raise its own cattle! The only other Singaporean restaurant that made it to the top 101 is the newly opened Butcher’s Block. Surprisingly, One Michelin Star CUT, didn’t make it to the list!
Being a Tuscan steakhouse, their signature steak is the Fiorentina which is basically a 1.1kg Porterhouse steak that is good for sharing. But since Bistecca is an Italian (honestly I thought Argentine) steakhouse, it means that you need to get through the starters and the pasta before you get to the steaks!
We both chose the Angus rib eye and sirloin strips. And with some starters - cream spinach and fries. Done medium rare - my Angus rib eye (400g) was cooked perfectly. I lapped it all up - was meant to take another picture of the pinkness when the knife cuts through. It was that good.
Overall 8/10 and consistently over the years - this is a great establishment for steaks in Sg. And congrats on being 13/100 - certainly an accolade for a country without cows!
I would be amiss to mention that Bistecca has a formidable pasta selection as well - we committed the sin of not having starters (pasta) but instead the octopus. No regrets though - the Sicilian octopus was charred perfectly to my taste.
Today SGD492 per pax for a steak and a bottle of wine. Very, very enjoyable.
