Char Kuey Teow, Street Food
The Char Kuey Teow at Chow Yang Kopitiam was good. It’s one of the CKT that’s still fried by a local.

The flavor profile was solid, and the dish exhibited good wok hei. The taugeh was notably crunchy, adding a fresh texture to every bite. There were a few detractors: it was served without fried lard or a banana leaf base, and they included fish cakes, which might not suit the purists. However, purely on taste, it remains a very satisfying plate.

I also sampled the White Curry Mee. This was just decent, providing a standard bowl of noodles that didn’t quite reach the same level of impact as the CKT.

Char Kuey Teow (Small): RM9.00
White Curry Mee: RM10.00
Total: RM19.00
Average Spend: RM9.50 per pax
Score: 7.4/10
M – Meal Value
While the Curry Mee was unremarkable, the quality of the stir-fry and the presence of wok hei make the RM9 Char Kuey Teow a fair and affordable lunch option.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Chow Yang Kopitiam is a clean and bustling neighborhood coffee shop. It is a no-frills environment.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the technical execution of the wok hei of the CKT. Even without the traditional “extras” like fried lard or banana leaf, the stall operator demonstrates a mastery of heat control that gives the noodles a good flavor.
Score: 7.8/10
