Ice Cream
I remember having Cold Stone Creamery for the first time in Bangkok more than a decade ago and I thought it was amazing. Returning to the brand at the Cold Stone Creamery TRX outlet, I found that while the nostalgia remains, the landscape of artisanal ice cream has shifted significantly.

I ordered the Apple Pie Ala Cold Stone (8 oz) served in a chocolate-coated waffle bowl. The presentation is still as signature as ever, with the ice cream piled high in its dark chocolate shell. The texture is dense and rich, typical of their "super-premium" style which uses a high butterfat content to achieve that heavy, creamy mouthfeel.

The flavour profile is a sweet medley of French vanilla ice cream mixed with caramel, graham pie crust, apple pie filling, and cinnamon. It is a reliable, sugary treat, but given the sheer number of specialized ice cream choices we now have in Kuala Lumpur, the wow factor seems to have been lost. It feels more like a standard mall staple now rather than the groundbreaking experience it once was.

Apple Pie Ala Cold Stone (8 oz): RM21.45 after a 20% discount
Score: 7.0 / 10
M – Meal Value
At over RM20 for a single serving of ice cream, even with a discount, it sits at the higher end of the dessert market. The portion is fair for the price, but the premium is largely for the brand and location.
Score: 6.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The TRX outlet is a bright, open concourse kiosk with limited seating. It is a busy environment, good for a quick break during shopping but not for a long stay. I might have given them extra points if they had a place to power up the phone.
Score: 6.5/10
X – X-Factor
The custom "mixing" on the granite stone remains their unique selling point. Really just a nostalgic novelty now.
