Lam Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
Eng Sim Lam Mee. Most Penangites will know Mrs Tan aka Madam Phang Eng Sim, who runs the famous vegetarian Curry Mee stall at Free School Road during the “Kew Ong Yeah” (Nine Emperor Gods’ or Vegetarian) festival for the past four decades.
At other times of the year, she would be running her famous Eng Sim Hokkien Mee stall at BK Cafe, on the corner of Perak Road and Jalan Pasar. But Madam Phang decided to close her famous Hokkien Mee stall earlier this year because, in her words, it’s hard to get good workers to help her.
Thankfully for us food-lovers, Madam Phang has decided to make a comeback recently with a kick-ass lam mee stall, situated along Jalan Pasar, a mere few steps from where her old Hokkien Mee stall was situated.
Now, Madam Phang’s Eng Sim Lam Mee serves some of the tastiest lam mee in town! You have to taste it for yourself! We were here this evening for a late supper: the stall operates from 10pm to 10am the next morning, on Tue, Thu, Fri and Sat.
