Fried Rice, Pork-Free
Caught in that all-too-familiar flight (yes, it was AirAsia) delay, I wandered over to FUIYOH! It’s UNCLE ROGER KLIA2 to try their spicy fried rice. The stall is located in the food district area, and though it carries a famous name, the operation felt a little too relaxed for its own good. The cashier was nowhere to be seen for a while, and the team only took action once a queue started forming. Maybe that’s how their queues stay long, intentional or not.

I ordered the spicy fried rice (RM16), and the dish arrived fairly quickly. Fried to a deep brown, the rice had a decent flavour though not particularly strong on wok hei. What stood out was the inclusion of julienned lemongrass (serai) mixed into the rice. Some might appreciate it for its herbal, citrusy notes, but personally, I found it doing nothing for me. The accompanying sambal was fine, not too overpowering, and added a mild heat.

To their credit, the pricing remains the same as their town outlets. No airport markup, which is rare. Still, RM16 for a plate of fried rice that didn’t particularly impress makes me think twice about revisiting. I prefer my fried rice Cantonese-style which is lighter in colour, fluffier in texture, and with more depth from the wok. The drink was another RM10.
All in, it’s an okay option if you’re stuck in the airport and curious, but it won’t be the fried rice I daydream about. It may be Uncle Roger approved but not Chiefeater VK approved but I applaud him for capitalising on his fried rice fame.
