Pizza, Pork-Free
Jen and I were exploring the vibrant and bustling food scene at Petaling Street, where new eateries seem to pop up around every corner. As we entered the street, we saw Good News Pizza. I did not need further convincing once I saw the wood fire oven.

Good News Pizza offers a range of pizzas, pastas, and a handful of starters, but I tend to believe that you can tell a lot about a pizzeria by how well they execute the basics. For me, the Margherita Pizza is the ultimate litmus test of a pizzeria’s quality. Why the Margherita? It’s a straightforward combination of ingredients—dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh basil—but it’s precisely that simplicity that makes it a true test of skill. There’s no room to mask any shortcomings behind rich toppings or heavy sauces; the dough needs to be perfectly prepared, the tomatoes fresh and balanced in acidity, and the cheese of high quality. A good Margherita showcases craftsmanship in its purest form.
When the pizza arrived, its appearance gave me comfort. The crust was golden and slightly blistered, giving it that rustic, hand-crafted look. The dough had chewy yet crisp texture, slightly airy and with just the right thickness, neither too thin nor too heavy. The tomato sauce was refreshingly vibrant with a nice tang, which, in my opinion, paired beautifully with the richness of the melted mozzarella.

At RM32, the Margherita Pizza felt like good value for money.

That being said, Jen had a slightly different take on it. She found the tomato sauce a bit too tangy for her taste—perhaps she prefers a sweeter sauce—but I personally thought that sharpness brought a nice contrast to the creamy mozzarella and balanced well with the cold beer I had ordered. The pizza and beer pairing was a winning combination in my book.

The one downside to visiting Petaling Street, though, is the traffic. Driving into the area is always a nightmare—especially with limited parking and the narrow streets teeming with pedestrians and cars vying for space. Fortunately, we had the foresight not to drive, opting for a more leisurely mode of travel, which saved us the stress and allowed us to truly enjoy the meal. It’s one of those things to keep in mind when visiting this part of town, while the food can be rewarding, the journey there can be quite the opposite.
