Nanhua Village Penang Kopi
Chiefeater Tai Kwee Fatt had kopi at Nanhua Village in Penang

Hakka
Dining at Hakka Passion is always a reliable experience where every dish truly hits home for me. This visit was particularly special as I had what I consider to be the prettiest looking Yee Sang for 2026. The platter was a vibrant, beautifully arranged platter that was as much a feast for the eyes as it was for the palate. And the best part was the owners were the ones who arranged it for us.

Our spread included several house favourites.
Yong Tau Foo

Spicy Tofu XO

Stir-fried Eggplant

The Hakka Fried Pork with Wood Ear Fungus delivered that deep, savoury comfort that defines the cuisine

The Abacus Seeds (Suan Pan Zi) were colourful and well-textured, as always.

One of the added reasons I enjoy dining here is the availability of private rooms, which we booked for our dinner, providing a comfortable and intimate setting for our party of five. And they don’t charge corkage for liquor.
Hakka Yong San Bao (M): RM36.00

Average Spend: RM60.55 per pax (5 pax)
Score: 8.3/10
M – Meal Value
For a comprehensive heritage meal including premium items like salt-baked chicken and artisanal abacus seeds, an average spend of roughly RM50 per head represents solid value. The portion sizes for the “Medium” dishes are generous enough for a group of six.
Score: 8.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The ability to book a private room elevates the experience significantly, making it a top choice for family gatherings in Puchong. The restaurant is well-maintained and carries a warm, traditional atmosphere that complements the heritage menu.
Score: 8.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the visual presentation of the Yee Sang and the consistency of the heritage flavours. Finding a place that balances “pretty” festive presentation with the deep, soulful taste of authentic Hakka cooking is rare, and Hakka Passion continues to master this balance.
Score: 8.5/10
