Tai Chow, Hokkien Mee
Kedai Kopi Fatt Kee Kota Kinabalu often comes up in conversations about must-try eateries in KK. I ordered two of their most-mentioned dishes — the Honey Fried Chicken (RM17) and the Hokkien Mee with Pork (RM12).

The Honey Fried Chicken arrived glistening in a thick, glossy sauce. It was sweet and sticky, almost like a Korean fried chicken. It was well executed but not quite my style due to the pronounced sweetness.

The Hokkien Mee, however, was excellent. While it lacked that immediate wok hei punch upon arrival, the moment I dug in, the flavour hit beautifully. Savoury, well-balanced, and comforting. The standout detail? Their fried lard croutons which were large, crispy, fresh, and scattered generously across the noodles. It gave every bite a lovely crunch that completed the dish.

It’s also worth noting that while Fatt Kee serves pork, they do not serve alcohol or allow it on the premises. Take note of that if you are planning to have alcohol with your meal.
Honey Fried Chicken – RM17
Hokkien Mee – RM12
Score: 8.4/10
M – Meal Value (8.5): Excellent Hokkien Mee with generous toppings at fair prices.
V – Vibe & Venue (8.0): Clean, local-style kopitiam — fast service, full house even at night.
X – X-Factor (8.5): The fried lard in the Hokkien Mee — crunchy perfection.
