Soba
Dinner at King Kong Ramen Puchong Jaya turned out to be one of those meals where the table did not feel evenly matched, but there was still enough here to make me think about coming back.

Jen enjoyed her Unagi Mazesoba immensely and said she would not mind returning again to try the other soba options. That was probably the clearest vote of confidence from the meal.

The gyoza did taste good, but I felt the texture was too soft. I would have liked a little more crispness and contrast in the bite, especially for something pan-fried. Flavour-wise it was fine, but texturally it did not work for me.

I had the Shiro Tori Age Ramen. My first impression was that the broth was somewhat underwhelming, especially if you go in expecting something with a stronger punch.

What I did like very much, though, was the texture of the noodles. That was the part that stood out most to me. I also liked that you could choose from different types of noodles, which gives the meal a bit more personality and lets diners choose the texture they prefer.

I chose the medium option.

By the end of it, I felt this was a place with enough promise for a return visit, but I would probably go for the kuro ramen next time in search of a stronger flavour profile. So while this was not a completely convincing meal across the board, it was still interesting enough to keep in mind for another round.

M – Meal Value
At just over RM33 per person, this felt fairly reasonable for a casual ramen dinner with a side and refillable tea. The value holds up better because the portions and noodle customisation make it feel a bit more substantial.
Score: 7.7/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The space looks casual and contemporary, with a clean dining room and a playful identity built around the brand. It is comfortable enough for an easy weekday dinner without trying too hard.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The strongest X-factor here is the noodle texture choice, plus a Mazesoba that made Jen want to come back again. That sense of return potential matters.
Score: 7.6/10
