Japanese, Non-Halal
You don’t expect much from Niseko village. After all it’s a ski village. Most here during the winter season aren’t locals at all – in fact most are Australians, Americans and Europeans in search of powder snow. We’ve been here year in year out and usually drive out to smaller towns for food. Today however, we came down the slopes late and decided to walk the town in search of food. Chancing upon Kougetsu Izakaya, we saw that the composition of locals higher than usual here.

The Japanese pork dishes were superb – a juicier albeit sweeter tingpoyoke at 7/10.

The agedashi tofu was good at 7/10. It is my belief – in Japan you can’t find bad potatoes, brinjal and any other vegetable really. The nasu (brinjal) was good at 7/10.

The Hokkaido style hotpot with salmon pieces and leek was also good / authentic at 6.5/10

But it was the gyoza was the clear winner at 7.6/10

We might have been hungry after a day at the slopes – but even after accounting for that – this restaurant should weigh in around 7/10 overall.
