Nyonya Cuisine, Pork-Free
managed to dine out yesterday when went with a friend (as i still can't go alone). we decided to go to le er cafe, specialising in nyonya food. i had the nasi lemak nyonya (kukus) ayam rempah with nutmeg drink while my friend had the nasi lemak nyonya (kukus) curry chicken with ginger tea. we also order mee jawa to be shared but since i was full after my nasi lemak, i only took 2 spoonful for the taste. oops. forgot to take photo of the mee jawa. then i tapau (takeaway) back the nasi kerabu, mike with curry chicken and roti jala with curry chicken.
nasi lemak nyonya (kukus) ayam rempah. (MC01 on menu) RM22.90 dine-in.
fried chicken with a mix of of spices and herbs and the crumbs (crispy and crunchy!) too are made of the spices, if not mistaken
the rice is not lemak enough but on the whole it was very filling. chicken was good albeit a bit salty. apart from the normal nasi lemak menu, there is a fried egg and er.... i think kind of look/taste like chicken lorbak (chicken roll).
nasi lemak nyonya (kukus) curry chicken. (MC05 on menu) RM18.90. dine-in
my friend said just so-so
if you take a look at the menu, the menu shows both white rice and blue rice but when my friend got this, it was like this, so he asked where's the blue rice and was told the blue rice is underneath the white rice. oh dear me. misleading picture and actual dish then.
nutmeg drink hot (RM7.90) dine-in.
as you can see comes with 2 nutmeg on a skewer. taste is quite good
nasi kerabu (MC02 on menu). RM20.90. takeaway
blue pea rice with shredded chicken and fish, topped with lots of different veggie salad.
the shredded chicken and fish are packed seperately in a round container (top pic) while the rest are in the bento box (bottom pic). there are some shredded cabbage and i notice some small pieces of winged (four angle) beans and long beans too
blue pea rice with shredded chicken and fish, topped with lots of different veggie salad.
after i mixed up everything…. ready to be eaten. it was quite good but not spicy enough for me.
miku bun (AD07 menu RM12.90) and roti jala (AD08 menu) RM13.90. both with curry chicken.
both the miku and roti jalan are small pieces as you can see. both are average taste.
the curry chicken for the miku and roti jala. i like the curry – 3 big chicken pcs and 2 potatoes. curry is thick enough for dipping of the miku and roti jala. (but again not spicy!).
this cafe, if i understand correctly, used to sell nyonya kueh only and only opened for dined in not too long ago. as you enter the main door, you can't miss the row of nyonya kueh (and other nyonya stuff) on your left, while on your right is the counter (because it is rather narrow). the dining area is then behind, after this narrow passage way.
