Hakka
Returning to Mun Ji Chop Noodle Bandar Puteri Puchong for a benchmark of Yong Tau Foo and Hakka Mee.

On this visit, I decided to pair their Hakka Mee with a selection of yong tau foo, focusing on the bitter gourd and tofu puff. The Hakka Mee itself unfortunately stumbled slightly on execution, arriving a bit under-seasoned. While the noodle texture was adequate, it required a heavier savoury flavour to make the dish stand out.

Thankfully, the yong tau foo completely restored the narrative. Taking a close-up look at the texture of the filling, you can clearly observe the distinct air pockets trapped within the meat and fish paste. As we’ve noted on past culinary trails, these micro-cavities are the undeniable visual signature of paste that has been aggressively hand-thrown and slapped. This traditional process yields an exceptionally bouncy, springy texture that commercial machinery simply cannot replicate.

While these pieces are notably smaller than the versions served at Ee Hiong or Restoran Sg Way, and carry a pricier premium at RM2.80 a piece, Mun Ji Chop easily wins on the structural merits and depth of taste.
Hakka Mee: RM7.90
YTF Bitter Gourd (2 pcs): RM5.60
YTF Tofu Puff (2 pcs): RM5.60
Total: RM19.10
Average per pax: RM19.10 (1 pax)
Score: 7.6/10
M – Meal Value
At RM2.80 per piece for smaller portions, the pricing leans toward the premium end for neighborhood yong tau foo. However, the sheer technical quality of the handmade paste preserves a high utility value for discerning palates.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The dining room is spotless, fully air-conditioned, and organized with solid marble-top tables. It offers a calm, comfortable environment that feels a step up from a standard open-air coffee shop, making it a very pleasant lunch stop.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the bouncy integrity of the hand-slapped filling. Seeing visual confirmation of those micro air pockets translate directly into a texturally perfect, resilient snap elevates this yong tau foo into an elite tier.
Score: 8.0/10
