Bak Kut Teh, Street Food, Non-Halal
Thanks to foodies for recommending it, I finally got to try the delicious and MSG-free traditional claypot BKT at Madam Tay Bak Kut Teh in SEA Park, PJ
When I placed my order, I was a bit shocked by the price. It's RM25 per person, and the you tiao (Chinese fried dough) is RM3.50. Haha! But when the dishes arrived, I realized that they were actually quite generous in portion (lots of meat, lots of mushrooms, lots of fried tofu skin). It felt like it could serve two people, and the you tiao were big and thick too.
Madam Tay has been selling Bak Kut Teh since 1960, and her secret recipe includes no MSG and uses only a small amount of danggui (Chinese herb). That's why her bak kut teh is suitable for kids and people with high blood pressure. It has gained popularity among the nearby residents, who often take it home as a takeaway. Now her four children have also learned her skills and opened branches in several areas around Kuala Lumpur.
Next time, I want to try her other signature dish, the spicy and sour mustard greens/pork bone stew. I believe it will be incredibly delicious, as it's cooked with roasted pork bones.
