Fried Chicken, Halal
For this spicy chicken shootout, Marrybrown and Burger King pieces were ordered one after the other via delivery. Price was Marrybrown was RM14.90+ against BK's RM17.00+ for 2 pieces. Early lead went to Marrybrown.
The chicken from Burger King's arrived 20 mins later due to its farther location. I resisted eating the Marrybrown chicken until both had arrived to do a fair comparison. On visual inspection, BK's fried chicken skin held together better while Marrybrown's skin had bits falling off. Points to BK.
Marrybrown. You can see bits flaking off the skin
Burger King
But when I gauged the texture, Marrybrown's meat was noticeably softer and moister. BK's was firmer but drier. While I did not have like for like pieces to compare, I used the BK's chicken wing to compare with the thigh and upper thigh that came with the box of MB. Taking the first bite confirmed my findings - Marrybrown's chicken had the juicier and perhaps oilier bite. BK was firmer and drier, though not bad. Another point picked up by MB by just a whisker. But it's a win with a caveat. The meat was too soft for my liking, but it just did better compared to BK in this shootout.
Marrybrown. A bit more moist and even a bit too soft for my liking.
Burger King
Flavour-wise, both presented balanced spicy profiles with BK holding a slight edge in part due to it's better skin . But the differences were minimal.
Ultimately, I can't declare a sole winner this round. Textures swung to Marrybrown while skin and flavours just went slightly to Burger King. This shootout was too close to call. But I think they would both lose to A&W and Texas Chicken.
