Ooridoori Gurney Walk Ajang Myeon Noodles

Post by Chiefeater Lucia Lai

famous, authentic korean restaurant opens in gurney walk… in october i think. Ooridoori Gurney Walk restaurant. well since i’m not much into korean food, i actually was not aware this is famous and authentic – it was google who told me so.

was greeted by the friendly staff, a young man, at the counter who accompanied me to my seat and handed me a physical hardcopy menu. good. no QR code menu. i wanted noodles so look for noodles… spicy one and yes, if any, prawns.

saw one spicy dish but it comes with rice. all the noodles dishes are not spicy and no prawns unless i order the seafood noodles soup but i prefer stir-fry. after talking to the friendly staf, asking him about spicy dish and other questions. he said maybe he can add… dunno something… a bit more to make it a bit spicy. i notice only him and another foreigner around. this man seems to be at the counter and also the server who took down the menu. then him and the foreigner brings the food order.

another thing i notice is the ceiling of the restaurant – open and bare! – which is same like what i just noticed last week at the ‘only mee’ restaurant. so my friend, sherwyand kessler was correct… now is the trend to leave the ceiling like this, he said cool..

as with ordering most korean food, the order came with a few side dishes. six in total as seen in the pictures. you can read the review of the main dish and the side dishes at the pictures themselves but overall everything was good to me, especially the main dish. love the thick sauce and it was a very big filling. nearly cannot finish it.

ajang myeon noodle. RM25.00
noodles in black bean paste with cubed meat
look so black eh? well because of the black bean paste (called ‘jajang’ in korean) to make the sauce. sauce was so thick and tasted very good to me.. a bit of sweet, sour, salty taste all in (but pity no spicy).
big filling overall. eat so full stomach near burst.

the set that comes with the noodles
top left is black bean, which i put all into my bowl of noodles.
top right is er… what? i thought it was sambal, so i put all into my noodles too. later when i left and spoke to the staff and asked him, he did tell me what it was but didn’t quite catch. top centre is of course the popular kimchi. the only spicy food there! bottom left is cucumber. quite good. bottom right is er... potatoes but don't know what style the made it like this. it was very good. i like it.

for drinks, i wanted specially korean drink so asked the man for recommendation. finally took the ‘bongbong grape ‘. comes in can. quite nice. i thought it will be greenish or purplish in colour like grapes but no. still can feel the grape taste.

the restaurant is to your left just as you get out from the escalator. (next to cocoon)
