Street Food, Non-Halal
Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice took the F&B scene by storm in Mar 2023 when they gave out free bowls of Pig Leg Rice and Pig Trotter Rice with no strings attached. This was to celebrate the opening of 3 new outlets, and boy, you should’ve seen the queues! Despite the stunningly generous promotion having ended, Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice still draws decent queues at all of its 9 outlets, which are strategically placed across Singapore like pins on a map— from Senja Hawker Centre in the North to Amoy Street Food Centre in the CBD.
This is another famed melt in your mouth pork trotter rice (the other being the Lin Ji franchise. Amoy Street is a legendary food court right in the heart of CBD. I recall all the sweaty lunches of past - in particular the famed char kuey teow and Koke Road beef noodles. Haven’t been back for a decade at least!

Not until this - in search of pork leg rice or khao kha moo as Thais call it; led us to Amoy Street once again. I must say the environment is a lot more pleasant during weekends
There’s no mad office rush, and it’s breezy with attentive service from the stalls. Compared to the Albert Food Centre where Lin Ji is, this feels like an oasis
At 5.90 per bowl - this is a steal. Quality wise everything measures up. I was given such a generous portion of sliced pig leg meat that I had trouble spotting the rice underneath. Accompanying the entire ensemble were salted vegetables and a piece of prawn cake. It’s a solid 7/10 meal. The collagen rich pork trotters melted into the rice and into your mouth with every spoonful.

We still prefer Lin Ji, but this is 95% there. If you account for the overall dining experience, Shi Nian @ Amoy Street (on weekends) more than matches up.
The homemade chili is quite similar (the closest I’ve found) to the HK wanton mee sauce. This sauce alone add +.5 to the overall score. Don’t miss this. I recall Lin Ji had sauce too but Shi Nian’s take the sauce crown.
