Chiefeater VK visited Hakka Kopitiam, discovering a menu that offers a much broader range of dishes than their name suggests

Western, Pork-Free
Spillstone Coffee in Pudu offers a quiet escape from the bustle of Jalan Pudu, with a surprisingly serene view of the Merdeka 118 tower peeking through old shophouse walls and leafy trees. It’s a place where KL’s modern skyline meets its raw, rustic edges — an oddly poetic contrast that sets the tone for a slow, thoughtful breakfast.

I tried their Big Breakfast (RM35) set, which was visually striking and neatly plated. A crispy hash brown, sautéed mushrooms, grilled sausages, and a crunchy romaine salad sat alongside a thick slice of sourdough. What caught my attention was the corned beef. Not the usual streaky bacon or ham thus giving the dish a meaty richness that was different.

However, the scrambled eggs leaned a little too firm for my liking. While they were golden and generous in portion, I personally prefer a runnier texture. The sourdough was decent, though it could’ve used a stronger crust to hold its own against the toppings. That said, the plate overall still satisfied.

I paired the meal with a latte that was balanced and pleasant. But the best part? Sipping it by the window, with the towering Merdeka 118 just beyond the courtyard. It’s the kind of view that reminds you how KL is constantly evolving — and cafés like Spillstone find charm in the in-between.
