Chiefeater VK found it too dry was at Kedai Kopi Soon Yuen and had a decent Char Koay Teow with good flavour and plenty of fried goodness

DIm Sum
Lunch at The Dim Sum Place Komtar JBCC. This is a halal certified dim sum restaurant, and overall I found the food tasty.
We ordered a spread that included Steamed Chicken Siew Mai, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp, Steamed BBQ Chicken Meat Bun and jasmine tea.
The siew mai was enjoyable. The filling had good flavour and enough juiciness to keep it satisfying.

The har gao, or crystal shrimp dumpling, had decent filling too, but this was where I found the wrapper a little too thick.

For me, good har gao skin should be thin enough to stay delicate while still holding the filling together.
This one leaned more towards chewy than delicate.
The same issue came up with the cheong fun.

The rice noodle sheets were a bit too thick for my liking. I prefer cheong fun to feel more silky and supple, so the thicker texture took some of the pleasure away.
The chicken pao was pretty good. I liked the way they made the filling.

Texture aside, the food was still tasty overall.
And one thing stood out very positively.
The service was excellent.
The team was attentive and helpful throughout, which made the meal considerably more pleasant.
So this was not a case of bad dim sum. More a case of good flavours with a couple of textural details that didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
Steamed Chicken Siew Mai – RM12.90
Crystal Shrimp Dumpling – RM13.90
Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp – RM15.90
Steamed BBQ Chicken Meat Bun – RM10.90
Hot Jasmine Tea – RM6.90
Subtotal – RM60.50
Service Charge – RM6.05
SST – RM3.63
Rounding – RM0.02
Total: RM70.20
MVX Score: 7.8/10
M – Meal Value
RM70.20 for two with five items including tea is reasonable for a mall-based dim sum lunch. The flavours were good, although the thicker har gao and cheong fun wrappers pulled the experience down slightly.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue
A clean, comfortable mall restaurant in KOMTAR JBCC with an easy, modern dining setup. Nothing elaborate, but convenient and pleasant.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The pork-free positioning gives the restaurant broader appeal, but the strongest impression from this visit was actually the service. The staff did a very good job looking after us.
Score: 8.5/10
