The Dim Sum Place Komtar JBCC served tasty halal dim sum though it did lose on some texture issues but made it up with excellent service

Ramen
Since we still had some time to kill at KOMTAR JBCC, we decided to try a bowl of chicken ramen at The Ramen Stall.

The first thing that hit me was the smell. It reminded me of Maggi chicken-flavoured instant noodles.

Then I tasted the broth.
And yes, it reminded me of that too.
That isn’t necessarily a criticism. There is something familiar and comforting about that particular flavour profile, but it wasn’t what I was expecting from a bowl of ramen.
The more interesting part for me was actually the chicken chashu. I liked it.

This chicken chashu had more bite than many of the pork chashu slices I’ve eaten. That firmer texture made it more satisfying to chew, and it stood out more than I expected.
The noodles themselves were straightforward, while corn and seaweed rounded out the bowl.
The Ramen Stall is also the sister company of The Dim Sum Place, where we had eaten earlier. The two brands originated in Singapore and now sit almost side by side at KOMTAR JBCC.
So after dim sum, we ended up unintentionally trying the sibling restaurant as well.
Would I say this tasted like a deeply complex bowl of ramen? No.
But that Maggi-like familiarity was oddly recognisable, and the chicken chashu turned out to be the part I enjoyed most.
Signature Chicken Ramen – RM26.90
Service Charge – RM2.69
SST (6%) – RM1.61
Total: RM31.20
MVX Score: 7.2/10
M – Meal Value
RM31.20 after service charge and SST is reasonable for a mall-based ramen meal, although the broth itself did not feel particularly distinctive to me.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Venue
A bright, modern and comfortable casual restaurant inside KOMTAR JBCC. Convenient, easy and functional rather than somewhere I would visit for atmosphere alone.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The broth reminded me strongly of Maggi chicken noodles, which made the bowl unexpectedly familiar. The better surprise was the chicken chashu, whose firmer bite I preferred to many soft pork versions I’ve had.
