Fried Chicken, Halal
There were comments that I should try the spicy chicken from McDonald’s and Texas Chicken as well after my first spicy chicken shoot out. So for the second edition, I decided to do just that, I ordered both via food delivery within minutes of each other. Both arrived via delivery within minutes of each other, still hot and ready for battle.
At first glance, McDonald’s (on the right) had the advantage – its spicy chicken looking fiery and more visually appealing.

The first bite told a different story. Texas Chicken’s filing was just…moister. The meat tasted fresher, more tender and fell apart with each bite. The seasoning was good too, it had nice spicy taste to it.

While McDonald’s offered big spicy flavor upfront, it didn’t have the same depth where the meat was concerned. The patty itself was slightly on the rubbery side – it lacked the tender juiciness that Texas nailed.

In the end, appearance can be deceiving. Texas Chicken demonstrates that with the right recipe and quality ingredients, even fried chicken can be artfully crafted. Its spicy filing caused me to quickly forget about the one from Ronald’s. Texas Chicken surprised me in a good way.
To help tame the flames, I paired the spicy fillets with a Weihenstephaner Dunkel. Its malty depths offered the perfect counterpoint. Medium bodied with notes of toasted bread, cocoa and faint roast, the Dunkel’s smooth crispness cut through the heat without overpowering the flavours.
