Char Siew, Non-Halal
Airplane Mode is yet another eatery located at Taman Rasa Sayang. However, they are quite hidden as they are located on the first floor. Opened in August 2022, they are still building up a following. What they serve are toasts, rice bowls, noodles, Swiss roll, coffee and tea.
I read that their char siew pork belly was highly rated so I decided to give it a try. At RM18 for a serving, it sounds pricey but if it’s good, then it would be a worthwhile spend. The head chef, Seng Tong, has his own take on how he wanted to do his char siew. He wanted a 70/30 ratio on the lean meat to fat ratio and on the texture, he wanted a firm chewy bite to the meat. On the flavour side, he is going for a non-sweet version of char siew given that there are a lot of caramelised versions of it already. You can have it with rice or noodles. I had it as is as it was a non carb day.
All in, he knows what he wants to achieve. I don’t often have char siew but the one I like is the one at Overseas Restaurant which is the sweet sticky 50/50 lean meat to fat type. If you like it the way he has made it, then this is the char siew for you.
Airplane mode closes at 6 pm. After which it transforms into a Izakaya.
Get off at the Kelana Jaya LRT station.
