Fifty Tales is opened by 3 young chefs, two of them named Aaron. What they specialise in is hand made egg noodles. You will see NOT RAMEN written on their t-shirts to remind you that this is not ramen, but Chinese egg noodles. And not just egg noodles, but hand made egg noodles with no alkaline which they make fresh every day. Take note that this is a thicker noodle compared to bamboo noodles. The noodles (which the chefs there term as noodles made with human effort) served at Fifty Tales will have an al-dente texture, which is chewy and firm. The way I like it!

Each meal opens with a palate cleanser of a radish pickled with soy sauce and a cucumber pickled with garlic. It will leave you with a nice tangy feel in your mouth and with you relishing to bite into your bowl of noodles.

I had the OG Style noodle (RM21) which is their signature dry noodles with beer braised pork belly grilled over a charcoal fire & seasoned soft-boiled egg. The noodles are generously mixed into a soy sauce that covers every bit of surface area ensuring that no bit you bite into is without flavour. Jen had the Hakka Mee (RM18) which has minced meat, homemade meatballs & vegetables with peppered dry noodles.

I had an East meets West beverage (RM18) which is a homemade luo han guo syrup & beer concoction to pair with the noodles. I personally think a white wine would have gone better with the rich savoury flavour of the noodles.

All the while through our lunch there, their playlist consisted a medley of Cantopop tunes from the late 70s to the 80s. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a bowl of Chinese noodles than that music accompaniment. It was my first visit but it won’t be my last.

Fifty Tales has relocated to SEA Park since I first visited them at the end of Nov 2022.
