Nyonya Cuisine, Non-Halal
new nyonya food restaurant in town. Nyonya-Lah by Javu. opened on 6 dec. i only knew of this restaurant because the boss is the son of my friend (EK is his name). she told me last week when i met her.
for their opening, they have the special tiffin set, where the 3 food are chicken curry kapitan, ju hoo char, acar, with blue pea rice. RM19.00. however, there has to be 2 pax to take the tiffin set, thus each pay RM19.00. if you are 1 pax only, it will come in plates, and not tiffin.

the tiffin 3 layers. the chicken curry kapitan is not inside the tiffin but on a bowl

acar awak (pickle)
i don’t really like acar so can’t say more but would have say quite okay.
those who are not familiar with the dish (especially non malaysians) please do read the description on the menu. same as the rest of the menu as there are good description of the food on their menu. this is no. 6 on side dishes menu

jiu hu char (no. 3 on veggie menu)
tasted good but then again i usually like jiu hu char. so i guess all jiu hu char should be good to me.

chicken curry kapitan (no. 7 on ala carte menu)
quite okay with chicken and potatoes. chicken were tender enough but i feel the gravy could be more thick, tasted better. non spicy at all.

blue pea flower coconut rice
fragrant and nice

anyway ok lah so we order the tiffin set and i wanted extra dish – prawns!. order the asam prawns (tamarind pranws) while my friend wanted the pie tee. for dessert, we have the ‘bee kor moi’.
pie tee with crab meant (no. 2 of side dishes menu)

dessert. bee kor moy (black glutionous rice)
the dessert is quite nice. big filling too

since i do like nyonya food, i decided to tapau (takeaway) two dishes to eat at home. i took the babi pongteh (braised pork in fermented soy bean sauce) and sweet potato leaves masak lemak (potato leaves with coconut cream) style, so i bought it.
babi pongteh (no. 5 on ala carte menu)
like this too. everything there tasted good. the black fungus (2 pcs) are so big. meat is soft and tender, easy to bite.

sweet potato leaves masak lemak (no. 2 on veggie menu)
delicious. using their home made chilli paste and with small pcs of dried shrimp too. the best dish from here all. the ‘lemak curry’ is spicy and enough to spread on rice, making it appetising

sidenote: i understand that this Nyonya-Lah by Javu is the 3rd outlet under the javu flagshp. the first is javu at tg tokong, managed by EK’s dad while second is hola (spanish food) at tg bungah, which is also managed by EK (runs about hola and nyonya-lah).
