Japanese, Pork-Free
Stepping into The Birdland and Fat Cow after several years, I found myself drawn to the options they had for their set lunch. My choice for the day: The Wagyu Kamameshi, a dish that promised a symphony of flavours encapsulated in a single bowl.
Kamameshi is a Japanese rice dish traditionally cooked in an iron pot, typically with various proteins, vegetables, and a special soy-based sauce. It's a culinary delight that combines the simplicity of rice with the complexity of carefully selected ingredients.
The Wagyu Kamameshi (RM28++) at The Birdland and Fat Cow featured tender cuts of Wagyu, promising a succulent experience. The Wagyu, while undeniably tender, carried a touch of sweetness that, for my personal taste. However, it's worth noting that the interplay of sweetness might appeal to those with a penchant for diverse flavour profiles.
The rice, a crucial component of any Kamameshi dish, boasted a firm texture and absorbed the flavours of the sauces.
One standout element of the dish was the egg, a star in its own right. Bursting with flavour and possessing a delightful bounce, the egg elevated the entire dining experience. Its richness contributed to my overall enjoyment of the dish.
