Chinese New Year, Non-Halal
Elegant Inn KL proved to be a fitting choice for our Chinese New Year lunch, offering a blend of tradition and innovation that left a lasting impression on our taste buds. We were welcomed with an air of sophistication and elegance, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience.
The Iberico pork had its succulent meat falling off the bone. Enveloped in peppery cumin flavours that danced on the palate, it left us craving for more.
While the ginger scallion prawns received a mixed reception, I found them to be satisfactory, albeit lacking the depth of flavour found in sang har meen stalwarts.
The lap mei fan was a testament to skillful preparation, cooked in a traditional claypot to achieve the coveted toasted rice crust at the bottom. With the addition of waxed duck and yoon cheong, it offered a symphony of flavours that celebrated the essence of the Lunar New Year.
However, the true standout for me was the abalone and broccoli in brown sauce, a dish that epitomized indulgence and sophistication. Each bite was a revelation, with tender abalone and perfectly cooked broccoli enveloped in a rich, savoury sauce.
However, the real surprise came in the form of the double-boiled Fuji apple with cloud fungus dessert. Delicately balanced and not overly sweet, it allowed the natural flavours of the apple and pear to shine through, a perfect pairing with the nian gao.
As I savoured each dish, memories of my family dinners at the original Elegant Inn in Taman Connaught Cheras flooded back, reminding me of the rich culinary heritage that this restaurant represents. It was heartwarming to hear the staff reminisce about their humble beginnings in Cheras, a testament to their dedication and passion for their craft.
In conclusion, Elegant Inn KL surpassed expectations, offering a culinary journey that honoured tradition while embracing innovation. With each dish expertly crafted to perfection, it's no wonder that this establishment continues to attract discerning diners seeking an unforgettable dining experience. Their Michelin select rating is well worth it.
