Yoong Kee Eating Shop is a very old 'chu-char' eating shop in the heart of Bukit Mertajam town. It was established more than 60 years ago, when telephone numbers had only three digits! Despite its no-frills surroundings, it is very popular among the locals as well as visitors to this town.
These people do not mind the plastic stools, worn-out tables, old crockery nor dining in an open and hot space beside a busy one-way street.
They come for this shop's famous traditional dishes like stir-fried beancurd and garlic chive flowers, steamed pork rib and groundnut soup, Teochew styled steamed fish, sweet sour pork and pork belly steamed with salted fish.
The signature dish that can been seen on every table here is stir-fried beancurd and garlic chive flowers.
This steamed soup is very popular too. The pork ribs and groundnuts melt in our mouth.
Teochew styled steamed white pomfret
Sweet sour spareribs (pai kut ong).
Steamed spare ribs and bitter gourd.
The price lists and contact numbers laminated and pasted on the wooden wall.
Be prepared to wait during the peak lunch and dinner hours. Many regular customers call to order in advance and they get to be served first.
