Batik Air Fried Rice

Mee Siam, Local Breakfast, Coffee
Since it opened in December 2020, Oriental Kopi has packed in the crowds. You would not have thought there was a pandemic going on judging from the queue outside the store waiting to go in to dine. Despite new outlets opening in Mid Valley and Pavilion Bukit Jalil, the Puchong store continues to do very well. If you have anthrophobia (fear of people) then this is most definitely NOT the place for you.
It is one of the few places that I will put up with a queue, though I now know when to visit to avoid the queue. I am often rewarded with an enjoyable meal.
The Mee Siam (RM6.90++) is a simple dish that can go easily wrong. Oriental Kopi does it pretty well. The meehoon is firm to the bite and fried with savoury flavours locked into the vermicelli. The lime gives it a tangy taste to balance the savouriness. The sambal has just the right amount of spice as not to overpower the rest of the dish. All in, a very good spend of RM6.90++.
The breakfast set (RM8.90++) comes with 2 half boiled eggs, a double butter kaya toast and a choice of tea or coffee. Double Butter is their way of saying that every centimeter of the toast is covered in butter. One of my major grouses with many kopitiam is that the bread and eggs are not delivered at the same time. Not the case here. My only complain is that the eggs don't come "unsheathed" from the shell. But it's a small price to pay for having both items delivered as one.

They are famous for their Portuguese Egg Tart & Polo Bun which I don't take.
The other thing that really complements the meal is the medley of Cantopop and Mandopop numbers that they play. It's a place that brings back the charm and nostalgia of years gone by. If they have a Rediffusion box, that would complete the charm. Aiya, exposed how old I am already!
PSA - if you want to avoid the queue, don't come here on weekends and public holidays. If you belanja me to makan, then I will bring you at "secret" time when there is no queue.
Get off at the Taman Perindustrian Puchong LRT station.
