Hainanese, Chicken Chop, Non-Halal
The lunar ninth month of the Chinese calender sees the Taoist celebration of the Nine God Emperor (九皇爺) vegetarian festival from the first to the ninth day of the lunar month. I took the opportunity to visit the Si Thian Kong (西天宮) temple in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. It's one of the biggest and most beautiful Chinese temple in the country. On the way back, stopped by our favourite Hainan restaurant, Tai Ah Restaurant, for lunch. We had their signature chicken chop, fried rice and fried noodles.
The fried rice was grainy, nice flavour with enough wok hei.
Fried noodles in a dark starchy shimmering appearance looks appetizing, with a yummy taste to match. It comes with chicken strips, fish cake and a handful of mustard greens.
The chicken chop is an old-school style - fried boneless drumstick in a flavourful crispy batter. Drenched in light brownish tomato based starchy sauce, accompanying with french fries, onions rings, carrot bits, green peas and sweet corns. Presentation was colourful, chicken bites was crispy and sauce was slightly tangy and tasty.
There are a few other Hainan restaurants nearby, but this is our favourite because taste was good, service and price was reasonable.
