Japanese, Pork-Free
I don't remember the last time I had Japanese food. So I decided to walk into Sushi Koi. I have had a nice experience at their PJ branch before this so my expectations were high at Sushi Koi Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
Before dinner that night my mother already had a lavish lunch at Bentong and as for myself, I had two rounds of nasi lemak during the day so we decided to go easy with the orders - some dishes with rice.
Kinoko Misu Jiru
It's Shimeiji miso soup and it tastes just like it. You know how some Japanese restaurants are way off with the miso soup. Not Sushi Koi Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Their miso soup is flavourful with a layer of mushroom taste.
Koebi Karaage
Deep fried baby shrimps. These babies deserve to be eaten and be eaten with rice. Simply love them babies, that's all I'm gonna say. Before the bible thumpers start labelling me as a Satanist, I'm talking about baby shrimps.
Mittsu Sashimi Moriawase
This was 3 combination sashimi platter of Amberjack, Tuna and Salmon. I was relieved that the tuna tasted like tuna and with the familiar tuna texture. It's not easy getting some decent raw Tuna here unless one is willing to pay a premium for that. What can I say about the salmon? It tastes just like any other farmed salmon I guess. One word to describe the amberjack is that it's firm to the bite. All cuts were thick and a joy to eat with plain rice. Just a dash of wasabi and soy sauce to do the job.
Kuruma Ebi Tempura
This tempura style deep fried fresh tiger prawns are pretty good too. I can't claim that it's really fresh but it tasted good and that layer of batter is thin. The tempura sauce though was a bit bland for the both of us. Nothing that some soy sauce cannot fix.
And that was it, my second time to Sushi Koi. All is still good, just not the bill. It came up to RM180 with two bowls of rice (RM6 each) and two cups of refillable green tea. I have to space it out a bit more in my frequency for Japanese food.
