Paradise Teochew Takashimaya. The groups battle it out – dialect for dialect: Paradise vs Imperial for their Canto, Hotpot and Teochew offerings. Today we had the newly-ish Teochew top of the line/flagship for the Paradise group at Ngee Ann City. This particular outlet was ‘discovered’ by Chiefeater Susan a few weeks back.
And as usual, we ordered the same dishes – the oyster porridge and braised duck among them. These are all staples.
The oyster porridge is 7/10 – a tie.

The braised duck, equally succulent at 7/10, also tie.

The standout for me today was the fried sea cucumber in abalone sauce. What’s usual is the braised morsel in dark brown sauce, but Paradise quick fried it to achieve an unusual crispiness – this is 7.5/10

Apparently Singapore (just behind Thailand) has the largest proportion of Teochews migrating from South China over hundreds of years. Maybe that’s why I find Teochew food here to be of above average quality – but again, with Singapore, there’s a price to pay.
Overall experience still a steady 7/10 across. Total damage for 3 pax was SGD203.
