Kedai Kopi Teoh Guan Hup Wantan Mee
Wantan Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
- Under RM20 per pax
Chiefeater Tai Kwee Fatt had not been back to Kedai Kopi Teoh Guan Hup for awhile and he was there to have the wantan mee there
Korean, Non-Halal
Octo Restaurant is a cavernous Korean-Chinese restaurant is still worth a visit. Especially if you work in Midtown and sometimes eat with more than two people at a time. Octo Restaurant has big, red leather booths and readily available reservations make it a perfectly pleasant place to have a group meal. Stick to regular duck, onion-heavy jajangmyeon and other small plates, like soy crispy chicken and ma-po tofu.
I dug this out from the NYC yelp reviews. Chiefeater Susan was reluctant. But I figured if we had to brave K-town, we’d be trying their most basic - perennial favourites. Such as jajangmyeon, tangusuyuk and jjamppong. Literally, translated - it’s Korean sesame noodles, sweet sour pork and seafood noodles.
Jajangmyeon - 6/10
Tangsuyuk - 6/10
Jjamppong - 6.5/10
Overall, an expected ramyeon lunch on a rainy, frigid NYC afternoon. Octo Restaurant labels themselves as Asian Fusion. However, I feel this is less a fusion, more a Korean take on Chinese cuisine. If you had Manchurian (Chinese) in India, you get the drift.
Total damage USD120 including 2 bottles of Saero.
