Chiefeater VK introduced Chiefeater Kenneth Xu to local flavors at Restoran Jaring in Sunway Mentari that serves traditional Malay lauk-pauk

Teochew, Non-Halal
What started as a plan for dim sum quickly turned into an exploration of the lunch set offerings at Dong Chao Yuan (東潮苑). Their set lunch for 4 pax, priced at RM98++, caught our attention with its variety and affordablity. For six dishes at this price, it felt like a steal.
The set began with Teochew dumplings, which were delicate and flavourful, followed by char siew sou—a buttery, flaky pastry filled with sweet, savoury char siew.

The chives pancakes added a rustic touch, with their crisp exterior and fragrant, slightly garlicky filling.

The highlight of the set was the braised platter, featuring goose, pork, and tofu. Each component was beautifully tender and deeply infused with a savoury soy-based marinade. The pork, in particular, stood out with its melt-in-the-mouth texture.

The dip to go with the braised meat

The stir-fried kuey teow was another crowd-pleaser. It had a robust wok hei that elevated the dish, with just the right balance of seasoning and texture.

The meal concluded with a refreshing jelly, which provided a light and pleasant finish.

Tea, priced at RM6++ per person, complemented the meal well.
Overall, Dong Guan Yuan impressed with its variety and execution. This lunch set is a great option for those seeking a satisfying, value-for-money meal with friends or family.
Starting at RM1988.00++ for 10 pax
