Modern Chinese, Pork-Free
Floccus Floccus was an accidental yet delightful find while seeking shelter from a sudden downpour in KL Chinatown. Below, the bustling kopitiam was teeming with patrons, and just as I contemplated leaving, I noticed a staircase leading up to another eatery.
Ascending those steps felt like stepping into a bygone era—the terrazzo tiles evoked a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of a classic Hong Kong film setting.

Upon entering, we were welcomed by a serene, cosy space—a stark contrast to the lively scene below.

Floccus Floccus specialises in giving modern twists to traditional kuih, and that’s precisely what drew us in.

Roast Pork inspired Kuih Lapis

We opted for their koi-inspired cai kueh / steamed vegetable dumplings (RM15 for a tray of 3 pieces), a creative and visually stunning interpretation of the classic. The flavours were delightful—subtly savoury with a tender bite. While it would’ve been even better served warm, there was little to complain about in terms of taste. This is, without doubt, your “atas” chai kueh experience.

Peekaboo!

Their kaya roll (RM10) though interesting, I found less impressive compared to the savoury items and would stick to those on a return visit.

Another highlight, especially on a cold, rainy day, was the osmanthus tea (RM12) — light, fragrant, and utterly soothing.
