Dim Sum, Non-Halal
On the final day of 2024, I stumbled upon a hidden gem in Puchong - Restoran Dim Sum. This unassuming half shop with its dark signboard, tucked behind Texas Fried Chicken, could easily be overlooked by drivers but reveals itself to the keen-eyed pedestrian. This restaurant opened near the end of November 2024. The shop itself is very small too.
Approaching cautiously, I began with the staples - Siew Mai and Har Gao. Both were served freshly steamed, their warmth and flavour indicative of their made-to-order preparation. Priced at just RM8.50, Restoran Dim Sum offers some of the most affordable dim sum in found in a speciality shop in Puchong.
The Siew Mai was juicy and well-balanced in taste. Definitely a comforting feeling.
The Har Gao, while boasting a satisfying filling, could benefit from a thinner and more delicate skin. Despite this, its flavour was spot on and enjoyable. The prawn filling was succulent and tasty.
Please with the first 2 items, Jen also ordered Char Siew Bao and Char Siew Cheong Fun to go. The Char Siew Bao exceeded expectations for me. Unlike many places that overly sweeten the filling, Mo Yu’s version offered a savoury balance that I appreciated.
I also liked it that the filling to bun ratio was nicely portioned too.
The Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun featured rolls thicker than my preference, but the savoury sauce was a standout. It's a delightful departure from the usually sweetened sauces often encountered elsewhere. This is a matter of preference. Jen didn't like the savoury sauce as much as I did.
Thanks to a 20% discount, which ended on 31 December 2024, the total for all four items at Restoran Dim Sum came to just RM27.70. Without the discount, the pricing is still reasonable given the quality and freshness of the food.
Mid Jan 2025 update.
They have relocated to bigger premises at No. 19 on the same road. The address and the map point has been updated to reflect that.
