Otak Otak, Nasi Lemak, Pork-Free
Grandmum Kitchen SS15 proudly claims to serve the best nasi lemak in Subang, and while that might be a bold statement, there’s no denying that their rice is among the most fragrant I’ve encountered in the area. The grains were light, fluffy, and infused with a rich coconut aroma that elevated the dish beyond the ordinary.

The sambal had a tinge of sweetness (which I did not like) and heat, complementing the crispy anchovies, roasted peanuts, and fresh cucumber. The fried egg, was ok. The ayam merah was well seasoned though the meat texture felt a bit mushy. Not a good sign.
Fried Egg with Onions (RM4)

However, the true star of the meal was the steamed otak-otak (RM6.90). This version was the soft variety, almost custard-like in texture, and packed with bold, savoury flavours. A gentle heat lingered, making it a delightful bite that stood out even against the fragrant nasi lemak.

While Grandmum Kitchen SS15 may not necessarily take the crown for the best nasi lemak in Subang, their execution—especially the rice—is commendable. But if there’s one reason to return, it’s undoubtedly the otak-otak, a dish that delivers both comfort and a punch of flavour in every bite.
